September: as good a time for a reset as any

I’ve always felt more like September as the start of a New Year than January.

January is so dark and cold and miserable no one feels like giving anything up.

Not that you’re giving anything up by going sober. You’re only gaining by deciding to give alcohol the boot as you’re life will improve in so many ways.

September has a certain energy, doesn’t it? The school holidays are over, the air feels a little fresher, and life starts to fall back into rhythm.

For many of us, it’s a time to reset with new routines, new notebooks, new intentions. We often think of January as the time for big changes, but I think September might be an even better place to start.

And if you’ve been thinking about giving booze the boot, this month could be your golden opportunity.

Why September Is the Perfect Reset Month

  1. Fresh Start Energy

There’s something about the back-to-school vibe that makes us want to get organised, set goals and feel more in control.

  2. Long Enough Before Christmas

Start now, and by the time the festive season arrives, you’ll already have over 100 days alcohol-free under your belt. Imagine going into Christmas feeling strong, clear and proud not panicked about another “fresh start” in January.

  3. Health Boost Before Winter

Ditching alcohol in September gives your immune system, sleep and energy levels time to improve before the colder months. You’ll thank yourself when everyone around you is tired and rundown.

  4. More Time for You

With kids back at school and routines kicking in again, September often brings a little more structure. That extra space can be channelled into healthier habits instead of “wine o’clock.”

What You Gain When You Give Up Drinking

  • Better sleep: no more 3 am wake-ups

  • More energy: mornings become easier, even joyful

  • Improved confidence: showing yourself you can do it builds self-trust

  • Real connections: no fuzzy conversations or forgotten evenings

  • More time: to spend on hobbies, family or just breathing!

Picture it: you’re at a Christmas party, someone hands you a glass of fizz, and you smile because you don’t need it.

You’re over 100 days alcohol-free. You feel lighter, clearer, calmer. You’re not battling through hangovers to get through the school holidays. You’re present, joyful, and proud.

That’s what starting in September can give you; the best gift you could ever give yourself.

Start now, and by Christmas, you’ll already have proven to yourself what’s possible.
