Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully these Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) answer any queries you may have about working with a sober coach. If not, feel free to email me by clicking on the link below.

What is Sober Coaching?

Sober coaches work with "grey area" drinkers that is between "normal" or "moderate" drinking and excessive drinking. You're becoming dependent on alcohol and would like to stop before things worsen. Coaching is different to therapy as you own the process and I will help facilitate you towards some decisions and actions moving forward.

What is Grey Area Drinking?

The term Grey Area Drinking was originally coined by Jolene Park as "the space between end-stage drinking and every-now-and-again drinking". You can read her blog entitled "Five Signs You Might Be A Grey Area Drinker" by clicking here

What happens in the First Session?

We use the First Session find out what you would like from your sober coaching session, create a goal and discuss how you can get there.

What happens in a Coaching Session?

Think of it as a supportive, honest chat. We’ll talk about your relationship with alcohol, what’s going on in your life and where you’d like to be. Together, we’ll build practical tools and strategies that fit into your lifestyle. You’ll leave each session with clarity and steps to move forward.

What Techniques do you use?

My approach looks at the whole picture, not just the drinking itself. We talk about what’s happening in your life, your relationships, your routines, even how you take care of yourself physically and emotionally. It’s about more than just saying no to alcohol – it’s about building a life that feels good without it. We work together on tools and strategies that support your mind, body, and day-to-day wellbeing so you’re not just white-knuckling through, but actually creating a life you don’t feel the need to escape from.

How is Coaching Different to Therapy?

You will own the process and I will help guide you towards making the right decisions and taking the right actions. It's a collaborative process. As your sober coach we will work holistically looking at the whole of you - your thoughts, emotions, habits and what's going on in your body.

Is everything Confidential?

Yes. 100%. This is a safe, private space where you can be completely honest without fear of judgement.

How much does it Cost?

I offer three different options — from a single Reset Session, to 4-week and 3-month programs. You can see all the details on my Coaching Packages section of the website. If you’re not sure which option is right for you, book a free discovery call and we can chat it through, along with costs.

How do I Get Started?

Easy - just book a free Discovery Call by emailing me at ali@alipaynecoaching.com. We’ll take it from there.

What if I decide it's Not For Me?

I truly believe that going sober is the best decision you'll ever make! Once you sign up we'll work together on a commitment from you as to how long you can go sober for; 10 days, 30 days or 6 weeks - whatever you want to set as your goal and we take it each day at a time.

Where can I find out more About You?

I was delighted and proud to be on Sassy Sober Mum's Podcast in August 2025. You can listen to my story on her website by clicking here, on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. I became sober on February 27th, 2023, having started drinking when I was 15, so I know how it feels to drink too much and want to stop.
